Construction of quayside channel-bassin B2

Capturing and storing CO2 is an important step in the transition to a carbon-neutral port. Port of Antwerp-Bruges is therefore constructing a quayside to accommodate ships that will be able to export CO2 in the near future.

Port of Antwerp-Bruges

Kanaaldok B2

Why?

The project Antwerp@C has the potential to reduce the CO2 emissions in Antwerp by half in the long term. Together with some of the leading companies in the energy and chemical sectors, we are helping to make the infrastructure required to capture, liquefy and transport CO2 a reality.

The new quay infrastructure at Channel Basin B2 allows the reception of ships transporting captured CO2 in liquid form to depleted gas fields in the North Sea for permanent offshore storage.
