SafeSeaNet notification

SafeSeaNet is the leading European platform streamlining the exchange of maritime information on ships and their cargo between EU member states, Norway and Iceland. It allows these countries to share and retrieve crucial data. This platform allows you to react faster to incidents, prevent pollution and detect high-risk vessels early.

How does it work?

Each Member State has a National Competent Authority (NCA). These communicate with SafeSeaNet via XML messages. LCAs (Local Competent Authority), such as the Antwerp-Bruges Port Authority, also communicate in the same way via XML messages on the Central Broker System (CBS). In doing so, the LCA reports on:

  • General shipping and travel information
  • Which ships are carrying hazardous goods
  • In case of incidents: detailed information can be requested via an electronic request. APICS automatically generates a complete overview of all cargo information, including stowage positions, based on IFTDGN declarations from shipping agents and freight forwarders.

What are the benefits?

  • Single point of contact: one central point for all maritime notifications
  • Easy way to comply with European obligations.
