It enables the transport of complex, heavy and oversized goods: from industrial machinery to wind turbine components. These are crucial for keeping other industries running, achieving the energy transition and building large-scale infrastructure projects. At the same time, the sector faces constant challenges: stricter sustainability standards, the need for more efficient supply chains and the integration of new technologies.   The Breakbulk Summit brings these themes together in a programme full of substantive sessions, practical cases and discussions with international experts . The event is thus a hotspot for cargo owners, logistics service providers, shipping companies, freight forwarders and other stakeholders. Crisisupdate: pilots’ action and national strike cause disruptions in the port Paragraphs Text items Title Antwerpen: 14/10/2025 - 09:00 Heading type H2 Text In Antwerp, maritime traffic for both seagoing and inland vessels remains suspended until October 15 at 07:30. The Port of Antwerp-Bruges towing service is operating at 50% capacity. Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) and passage planning continue to operate at full capacity. All locks and bridges are functioning normally, with the exception of the Kallo Lock and the Zandvliet Lock, which are temporarily out of service. In terms of congestion, there are currently 83 inbound and 49 outbound vessels registered. Title Zeebrugge: 14/10/2025 - 09:00 Heading type H2 Text In Zeebrugge, maritime traffic to and from the port is currently possible. However, the pilotage service is not operational, and tender operations with the SWATH vessels have been suspended until October 15 at 09:30. As a result, pilotage is temporarily unavailable. The Vessel Traffic Center Zeebrugge remains fully operational, but large LNG shipping is suspended. Inbound and outbound traffic, shifting operations, and lock usage remain possible for exempted vessels. Regarding congestion, there are currently 7 inbound and 4 outbound vessels registered. Flemish pilots are not operational due to a work-to-rule action and a closure in the Zandvliet sector. The Port of Antwerp-Bruges towing service is operating at 90% capacity. All locks and bridges are functioning normally, with the exception of the Boudewijn Lock and the Zandvliet Lock, which are out of service. In terms of congestion, there are currently 76 inbound and 34 outbound vessels registered. Title Zeebrugge: 13/10/2025 - 20:00 Heading type H2 Text In Zeebrugge, maritime traffic to and from the port remains possible. Pilotage operations are conducted in line with the work-to-rule actions, meaning service is limited to office hours. The Vessel Traffic Center Zeebrugge is fully operational, and vessel movements, shifts, and lock operations are proceeding as normal. Congestion in Zeebrugge remains limited, with 6 inbound and 3 outbound vessels. Background color Transparent Text items Title Antwerpen: 13/10/2025 - 15:00 Heading type H2 Text Due to union actions at the Zandvliet Traffic Control Center, maritime traffic – including inland navigation – to and from Antwerp is suspended from Monday, October 13 at 19:30 until Wednesday, October 15 at 07:30. This afternoon at 13:00, coordination began with inbound vessels bound for Antwerp to prepare for the planned suspension, allowing vessel traffic to be gradually brought to a halt by 19:30 this evening. Departure clearances are also being adjusted in line with this action. To comply with the imposed suspension, vessels – both seagoing and inland – will not be able to pass through the locks towards the Scheldt during this period. In the coming hours, we will gain more clarity on the impact of the strike on our own services, such as the operation of bridges, locks, and the towing service. The situation will be reassessed around 19:30 this evening. We are making every effort to plan vessel movements as efficiently as possible and to minimize waiting times. In Antwerp, there are currently 71 vessels without a confirmed planning and 12 vessels experiencing delays. In Zeebrugge, there are 10 vessels for which no planning is yet available. The next update will follow on the morning of 9 October. There is some congestion, with 27 outgoing and 36 incoming vessels in Antwerp awaiting pilotage services. In Zeebrugge, the queue consists of 4 outgoing and 4 incoming vessels. There is some congestion, with 29 outgoing and 22 incoming vessels in Antwerp awaiting pilotage services. In Zeebrugge, the queue consists of 5 outgoing and 5 incoming vessels. The Flemish pilotage services operate during established office hours, from 08:00 to 17:00. Shipping operations are scheduled as efficiently as possible to ensure smooth traffic flow. This means that Flemish pilots are assigned between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and ships are manned from 10 a.m. at the earliest to 5 p.m. at the latest.   At present, pilot services are still suspended due to weather conditions.
