Cycling is an important link in commuting and improving mobility in and around the port. To further increase the number of cyclists, we are aiming for safe and convenient cyclist access for every business. This why Port of Antwerp-Bruges is investing in better cycling infrastructure.

In and around the port of Zeebrugge, there are already some good cycle paths that make the port easily accessible from inland. These cycle paths traverse the harbour from north to south and east to west. With the Zeebrugge cycling master plan, Port of Antwerp-Bruges wants to improve the accessibility by bicycle of the companies in both the outer harbour, and the inner harbour.
In 2024, a study ('Zeebrugge cycling master plan') was carried out. This study resulted in an overview of roads and locations where a better cyling infrastructure was needed. These have been ranked based on priority.
In total, approximately 9.5 kilometres of new cycle paths are planned.
The first projects are in preparation. Incorporating a new cycle path mainly involves juggling the limited existing space. The cycle path must not interfere with the operations of the businesses and must be safe for cyclists. Once that puzzle has been solved, in many cases an environmental and building permit is also needed before the works can start.
If all goes well, the first construction site will be underway in the last quarter of 2026. After that, the other projects will follow each other in quick succession.
