PIONEERS is an international partnership between ports, knowledge institutions, technology developers and government agencies. The consortium of 46 partners is developing a master plan around greening ports and developing concrete solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions at ports.

Consortium tackles greenhouse gases at port

The collaboration falls within the Green Deal from Horizon2020, a European Commission funding programme for science, innovation, research and development. In the detailed master plan, the partners will work on current themes such as port and terminal operations, intermodality, energy transition and improvement of cargo flows. The exercise will take place simultaneously at the ports of Antwerp-Bruges, Barcelona, Constanta and Venlo. With 19 demo projects at the 4 PIONEERS ports, the partnership is developing some concrete solutions. Other ports in Europe will eventually adopt the best practices.

First PIONEERS conference is a hit

At a first international conference on 20 October, PIONEERS took participants on the path to the future. With a well-filled programme around the theme of "Shaping the Green Port of the Future", this first edition was an instant hit.
