Modal Shift-Unterstützung während der Bauarbeiten E313

Port of Antwerp-Bruges, De Vlaamse Waterweg und Lantis arbeiten zusammen

E313 works: inland waterway throughput

Along the Albert Canal, various inland terminals can serve as Cargo Park & Ride hubs. Goods can be left here and moved to the port by inland navigation ship, free from traffic delays. Alternatively, goods can be shipped traffic-free by inland navigation ship from the port to the inland terminal for truck pick-up. This allows trucks to circumvent traffic at the roadworks, so they can be redeployed sooner.

Support

At the initiative of Port of Antwerp-Bruges and with resources from Lantis’ Minder Hinder Fund, De Vlaamse Waterweg will establish a support mechanism. This allows the inland navigation terminals to establish a special procedure for goods re-routing during the works. This provides the inland navigation terminals with a method to handle goods changing route during the works.

Longer term

The ‘Cargo P&R’ concept is useful not only during the E313 works or for the route along the Albert Canal. Inland navigation and rail terminals along alternative routes allow goods to be transhipped for transport to the port free from traffic delays. For example, inland terminals are available on the routes to Ghent and West Flanders, to the Netherlands, and to Brussels. They are located outside the traffic-heavy area around Antwerp, which also benefits the carrier.

While the port will stay accessible throughout the works, Port of Antwerp-Bruges encourages all parties to critically consider how they move goods to and from the port. Given the new circumstances with ongoing roadworks, the standard approach may not be the most appropriate.
