A soft spot for steel

Antwerp is Europe's leading breakbulk port for steel. With unique trumps including optimal accessibility, advanced infrastructure, value-added activities and highly trained staff, every cargo of steel can count on high quality and reliable handling.

With more than 200 calls for breakbulk per month in Antwerp, rapid throughput of goods is guaranteed. The many specialised steel service centers ensure a customised approach.

Expertise and know-how for steel cargo

We handle your steel goods with the utmost care: optimally packaged in the hold or firmly secured on deck. The steel service centers offer a wide range of added-value activities, and use state-of-the-art technology to efficiently manage your cargo.

They also continually invest in enhancing their expertise in handling steel products. The benefit of such expertise? No damage and no accidents. And therefore lower costs and less downtime for the customer.

The London Metal Exchange (LME) has certified several service providers in Antwerp to store materials such as zinc, aluminium and lead. This means that steel billets and non-ferrous metals, traded via the LME contracts, can be stored here.

Lower logistics costs for steel transport

As hot-rolled steel rolls off the coil from the various production lines it has already been cut to size. Based on your requirements, the service centers also take care of the packaging and labelling of the cut steel.

The steel service centers finish the steel products in the port without the need for transport or handling by a third party. As such, cost-efficiency and speed are top trumps here.

Reliable connections

All breakbulk terminals in Antwerp are connected by water, road and rail and offer the possibility of immediate transhipment onto a truck, barge or railway wagon. This provides an efficient connection and ensures a seamless link between the fore and hinterlands.

Project cargo

Port of Antwerp-Bruges ships unique cargo, including wind turbines, machinery, generators, etc. Specialised breakbulk operators offer tailored solutions for the loading, unloading and storage of project cargo.

A unique approach to project cargo

Breakbulk terminals for project cargo work with state-of-the-art equipment and the most modern technologies. For example, Antwerp has a covered breakbulk terminal where ships can load and unload. For high-quality steel, this is an indispensable bonus.

Heavy cargo? Not a problem: many terminals have suitable lifting facilities, but if these are not enough or the modules are too big, you can hire cranes to do the job.

Port of Antwerp-Bruges is een Europese haven met een sterk en uitgebreid aanbod voor cargo en logistiek. Alle goederen vragen om een eigen manier van transport of verschepingsvorm.

High added value

As Europe's most important breakbulk port for project cargo, the firms in Antwerp add value with the consolidation, handling, packaging and shipment of project cargo from all over the continent.

Other services such as document tracing, storage in customs warehouses, customs clearance, loading and delivery, and turnkey project management provide integrated logistics support.

Als essentiële schakel in de globale logistieke keten is Port of Antwerp-Bruges uitgegroeid tot een vooraanstaande Europese haven met een sterk en uitgebreid aanbod voor cargo.
